‘고맙다 태극전사’ 토고전 뒤집기 원정 첫 승


믿을 수 없는 역전 드라마였다.

유럽 대륙의 관문 프랑크푸르트에서도, 서울시청 앞에서도 거대한 붉은 물결이 극적인 승리에 몸서리쳤다.

아드보카트호 태극전사들이 4천만의 뜨거운 성원을 등에 업고 월드컵 사상 원정 첫 승을 쏘아올렸다.

딕 아드보카트 감독이 이끄는 한국 축구 국가대표팀은 13일 밤(이하 한국시간) 독일 프랑크푸르트 월드컵경기장에서 열린 2006 독일월드컵 본선 G조 조별리그 '아프리카의 복병' 토고와 첫 경기에서 전반 모하메드 카데르에게 선제골을 내줬지만 후반 이천수의 천금같은 프리킥 동점골과 안정환의 통렬한 중거리포 역전골로 극적인 2-1 승리를 일궈냈다.

아드보카트호는 이로써 본선 첫 판에서 귀중한 승리를 챙겨 16강 진출을 향한 교두보를 마련했다.

태극전사들의 끈기와 정신력이 이뤄낸 값진 승전보였다. 1954년 스위스월드컵에 처음 진출한 이후 무려 52년 만에 만들어낸 원정 승리였다.

유럽 원정의 부담감과 무더위 속에 포기할 수도 있었지만 경기장을 가득 메운 붉은 전사들은 포기하지 않고 대공세에 나서 거짓말같은 역전승을 만들어냈다.

박지성, 조재진, 이천수를 스리톱으로 하는 3-4-3 스리백 포메이션을 선발로 내보낸 아드보카트호는 초반 고전을 면치 못했다.

전반 16분까지 단 한 차례 슈팅도 날리지 못했다.

전반 1분 이영표의 왼쪽 돌파로 파울을 유도했지만 이천수의 프리킥은 문전 혼전 상황에서 파울로 무위였다.

에마뉘엘 아데바요르와 카데르를 투톱으로 내세운 토고의 공세는 매서웠다.

전반 8분 세나야의 날카로운 중거리슛과 2분 뒤 카데르의 페널티지역 오른쪽 돌파로 한국 수비진은 흔들렸다.

15분에도 아데바요르에 왼쪽 뒷공간을 내준 수비진은 전반 31분 뼈아픈 선제골을 내줬다.

하프라인 오른편에서 길게 볼이 넘어오자 토고의 카데르는 무릎으로 볼을 툭 치며 중앙 수비수 김영철의 왼쪽으로 돌아 문전으로 돌파했고 김영철은 순간적으로 그를 놓쳐버렸다.

카데르는 페널티지역 오른쪽에서 단독 찬스를 잡은 뒤 몸을 날린 골키퍼 이운재의 손끝을 지나치는 오른발 땅볼 강슛으로 왼쪽 골포스트를 맞추고 네트로 빨려들어가는 첫 골을 뽑았다.

한국은 이을용, 이호가 미드필드 중앙에서, 이영표와 송종국이 좌우 측면에서 반격에 나섰지만 과감하지 못했다.

김진규의 장거리 프리킥은 방향이 빗나갔고 이천수의 프리킥은 벽에 맞았다.

전반 38분 이천수, 조재진, 이천수로 이어진 2대1 돌파가 있었지만 마무리가 되지 않았다. 전반 40분 이을용이 25ｍ 거리에서 왼발 슛을 때린 게 전반에 유일한 유효슈팅이었지만 골키퍼 코시 아가사의 품에 안겼다.

전반 41분에는 세나야의 프리킥을 이운재가 다이빙해 쳐내며 또 위기를 넘겼다.

후반들어 아드보카트 감독은 마침내 승부수를 띄웠다.

수비수 김진규 대신 안정환을 전격 투입했다. 3-4-3 스리백에서 4-4-2 또는 4-2-3-1에 가까운 총반격 대형으로 전열을 다시 짰다.

박지성이 중앙을 돌파하다 장 폴 아발로의 발에 걸려 넘어지면서 한국의 동점골을 이끌어내는 파울을 유도했다.

전반 23분에도 박지성을 걸어 넘어뜨려 옐로카드를 받은 아발로는 두번째 경고를 받고 퇴장당했다. 한국은 11대 10으로 수적 우위를 점했다.

후반 9분 프리킥 지점은 아크 오른쪽 바로 옆이었다.

키커로 나선 이천수는 숨을 고른 뒤 오른발 인스텝으로 예리하게 볼을 감았다.

볼은 유연한 커브를 그리며 벽을 뚫었다. 벽에 섞여있던 조재진이 주저앉으면서 공간을 넘어간 볼은 토고의 골문 왼쪽 네트 상단에 정확히 꽂혔다.

아가사가 몸을 날렸지만 볼은 이미 세차게 그물을 흔들고 있었다.

이천수는 상의를 가슴까지 끌어올린 뒤 한국 벤치를 향해 뛰며 오른속 검지를 입에 맞춰 하늘을 찌르며 환호했다. 경기장은 온통 붉은 함성으로 뒤덮였다.

전반 16분 조재진이 다이빙 헤딩 찬스를 놓친 뒤 토고 오른쪽 윙백 투레의 측면 돌파로 잠시 수세에 몰린 한국은 후반 27분 극적인 역전골을 뽑아냈다.

해결사는 역시 안정환이었다.

후반 교체 투입된 안정환은 조재진 바로 뒤에서 쇄도 스트라이커로 골문을 엿보다 기회를 잡았다.

미드필드 오른쪽에서 투입된 볼이 아크 쪽으로 흐르자 박지성이 페인트 동작으로 볼을 흘려줬고 볼을 낚아챈 안정환은 아크 오른쪽으로 돌면서 슈팅 타이밍을 잡았다.

날렵하게 몸을 왼쪽으로 틀어 오른발로 감아 찬 중거리 슛은 토고 중앙수비수의 몸을 살짝 스친 뒤 골문 왼쪽으로 꺾이면서 골키퍼 키를 넘긴 뒤 그림처럼 토고 그물에 꽂혔다.

아드보카트 감독과 코칭스태프는 일제히 두 손을 치켜든 뒤 벤치를 박차고 일어났다.

50여년만에 한국축구의 원정 첫 승이 달성되는 순간이었다.

김남일을 이을용 대신 아드보카트호는 이후에도 강력한 공세로 귀중한 승리를 지켜냈다. 수비진은 아데바요르를 앞세운 토고의 공세를 육탄으로 막아냈다.

잉글랜드출신 주심 폴 그레이엄이 휘슬을 불자 태극전사들은 그라운드의 붉은 물결을 타고 승리의 기쁨을 만끽했다.

그들은 좀처럼 그라운드에서 일어날 줄 몰랐고 관중석에는 '대~한민국'이 오랫동안 그치지않았다.

South Korea took their time to get going before finally overcoming the resistance of 10-man Togo.
The one moment of real quality in the first half came when Togo's Mohamed Kader controlled the ball on his thigh and lashed home a fine shot.

Kader nearly made it two after the break before Jean-Paul Abalo's second booking saw him sent off, Lee Chun-Soo netted the resulting free-kick.

Ahn Jung-Hwan's goal doubled the lead as South Korea proved too strong.

South Korea come from behind to beat plucky Togo, who are reduced to ten men with Jean-Paul Abalo's dismissal.

90 mins: Referee Graham Poll indicates three minutes of added time.

88 mins: Togo win a free-kick and although they load bodies into the box substitute Massamasso Tchangai again wastes the opportunity with a poor delivery which sails out of play.

85 mins Now it is South Korea's turn to defend deeply and although Emmanuel Adebayor works his way around the back he woefully overhits his cross with team-mates having worked their socks off to get up in support.

81 mins: There are jeers and whistles from the crowd as South Korea decide to run the clock down with some possession football, but who can blame them making the ten men chase the ball in the intense heat?

78 mins: Plucky Togo have to chase the game with ten men and Emmanuel Adebayor slots a pass through for Mohammed Kader on the penalty spot but his touch lets him down and the chance is lost.

74 mins: Ahn Jung-Hwan has made a difference with his pace and directness stretching the ten men.

He takes a return pass from Park Ji-Sung to fire in a shot which almost squeezes under Kossi Agassa's dive.

"South Korean journalists in the press box were unable to contain themselves when Ahn Jung-Hwan put their team 2-1 ahead. A couple of them were even running up and down the seating area."

Substitute Ahn Jung-Hwan turns and fires a deflected shot into the top right-hand corner of the Togo net.


67 mins: Defensive midfielder Kim Nam-Il, known as "the Vacuum Cleaner" is brought on for Lee Eul-Yong. Perhaps South Korea are happy with a point.

65 mins: Togo are unwilling to settle for a point and Moustapha Salifou fires over the top over after Emmanuel Adebayor led a swift counter-attack.

61 mins: Ludovic Assemoassa is stretchered off and Togo are momentarily down to nine men. They are almost punished as Ahn Jung Hwan just failed to get on the end of Ji-Sung park's cross.

59 mins: South Korean tails are now up and the walls of red shirts in the stands are firmly behind their team.

53 mins: GOAL: South Korea 1-1 Togo
Abalo is doubly punished as Lee Chun-Soo curls an exquisite free-kick over the Togo wall and into the net.

53 mins: SENDING OFF: Park Ji-Sung's sharp turn takes him clear of Jean-Paul Abalo who hauls the South Korean player down, and having been booked in the first-half, leaves Graham Poll with no option but to show him a second yellow card and send him off.


50 mins: Lee Chun-Soo is shown a yellow card for pulling Yao Senaya Junior's shirt.

49 mins: Mohammed Kader again proves a handful, picking the ball up with no support, he makes for goal and after outpacing two defenders his powerful shot is beaten away by Lee Woon-Jae.


47 mins: Park Ji-Sung cuts inside but is immediately closed down by two defenders, causing the Manchester United winger to fire over.

SECOND HALF: South Korea's Dutch coach Dick Advocaat is stung into action and replaces defender Jin-Kyu Kim with striker Ahn Jung-Hwan.

The Togolese are small in number but seem to be made up of a large contingent of adopting supporters who took great delight in celebrating the goal."
